TOUR CANCELLED AS ERICA CAMPBELL’S DUE DATE NEARS--Mary Mary’s Erica and Tina Campbell, have regretfully cancelled their “Have A Mary Mary Christmas Tour” as Erica’s February due date draws near.

The singer has been advised by doctors that she cannot continue working at her current pace without risk of potential premature delivery. Also cancelled is their New Year’s Eve show.

Erica Campbell admitted, “This was a very hard decision for me. I'm accustomed to pushing myself beyond my doctor recommendations during my pregnancies, but after having seen my sister, Tina, deal with a premature birth as a direct result of an exhaustive pace, I recognize how real this is. Although my passion told me to push on as usual in these past months, my wisdom, as of my last week's doctor's visit, told me to take care of myself and my new baby-to-be. Just know that I have the greatest passion for whom I sing about and a great love and respect for whom I sing to, so I'll be back to what I live for as soon as I take care of mommy business.” .

Christmas Day vs. Santa Clause Day

Do you have trouble with the decision of what type of Christmas card you will send out every year? Will it be one that reflects that Santa Man? Or will it be one that reflects the true meaning of Christmas-- the celebration of the birth of our Savior? Believe it or not, many of today's Christmas cards have a little bit of both. Although I prefer Christmas cards that include artistic images of the manger, the Shepherds in the field , Joseph, Mary, and Jesus; I have found a couple of combinations I can well... somewhat live with.

You will not find very many people who dislike the story of Santa Clause. Who can be against a jovial fictional character who encourages others to give. Gifts from hot-wheel cars and barbies to a family cruise will place a smile on many faces again this year. No, I don't have a problem with Santa. I just wish we could celebrate "Happy Holidays or Santa Clause Day" on a different day than Christmas Day. I mean how is it we should want to celebrate a Holy day with a fictional character?

I think Happy Holidays should be right after Thanksgiving Day and before the Holy celebration of Christmas. How about December 12th? That sounds great. That way Santa can have his day where we exchange gifts and whatever... and Christmas Day can truly be the celebration of a Holy day with Bible reading and reflecting on why Jesus was born. Instead of exchanging gifts, why not exchange an "I love you" to your neighbor, "God loves you" to a stranger, and the biggest one of all... "I forgive you" to the one that has hurt you. Unless it's a long distance call these little exchanges are free.

COURAGEOUS - The Movie Is Here!

Wow… The movie COURAGEOUS was great! My husband and I viewed the movie on Sunday afternoon and we were both impressed with how far the writers, directors, and producers have come since “Fireproof”.

COURAGEOUS is more than just a movie. It comes with a profound message… A message that encourages and challenges men to step up to the plate, and be the father God planned for them to be.

Courageous opened in theaters Friday, September 30th, and truly pray that we continue to support faith-based movies like Courageous. We always talk about how horrible movies are these days… well here is one you can truly enjoy without having to cover eyes or ears. I think even Jesus would approve. You will have tears from laughter and tears from the tragedy. But most of all, you will walk away knowing the role of a parent should never be taken lightly.

Foundation Announces Changes
to Dedication Day Plans

Washington (August 25, 2011) - This evening Harry E. Johnson, Sr. president and CEO of the Washington DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc. released the following statement about Dedication Day.

Thank you for coming back this evening for a further update on our Dedication plans. In consultation with the National Park Service, the Mayor’s office and FEMA, it is with a heavy heart and enormous disappointment that we announce that, in the interest of public safety, we are forced to change our plans.

Here is the new schedule. First, the Friday schedule will continue as planned. Second, on Saturday we will hold the National Prayer Service at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. This will be the final official event of the Dedication week.

We have worked with the Park Service to ensure that the Memorial will be open to the public, weather permitting, on Saturday. The Memorial will be open Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

Finally, the official Dedication ceremony will be moved to a date yet determined in September or October. We will announce those details when we have them. For now, we wanted to make sure you had this information as soon as possible.

Want a great DVD for the kids? I have found one... actually I found two. My son and I watched two Broskee and the Fam Bam DVDs for the first time this weekend. Not only were we entertained, but we were blessed by the positive messages and Biblical storyline that tied into each video. Wow! I would have loved seeing these characters on the television when I was a little girl. They are too funny.

Broskee and the Fam Bam characters and Christian videos are the creation of brothers Derrick and DuPriest Hill of His House Productions. Broskee and the Fam Bam feature three young characters; Broskee and his two friends, Cotton, and Kandy. The DVDs include both 3-D animation and “live action fun”—Broskee and friends take children on a journey of real-life scenarios leaving young people and adults "bursting" with laughter. In each story they are faced with life’s test and trials, and are thrust into the world of the Good Book where they must make decisions that are in accordance with the word of God.

The Broskee and Fam Bam's "Big Ole Fish" and “The Stinky Locker" DVDs are great for the entire family (yes even mom and dad). The DVDs have received the "Dove Award", which means it is family approved for all ages.

Oh and let's not forget the music...great lyrics, catchy tunes and awesome beats. The song "I'll Stand" was in my head all day Saturday.

Celebrity Co-Chairs Announced for Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Dedication Top Entertainers Join VIP Participants to Celebrate the Dream

Washington (August 4, 2011) - Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Berry Gordy, Jr., George Lucas, Jamie Foxx and Clarence Avant will serve as celebrity co-chairs for the Dedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. next month. The Memorial, the first on the National Mall to honor a man of peace, hope, and color, will be dedicated on August 28 in a West Potomac Park ceremony on the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. King's historic "I Have a Dream" speech.

Members of the King Family, civil rights leaders including Congressman John Lewis, Ambassador Andy Young, Reverend Al Sharpton, Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Reverend Joseph Lowery, and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will play a role in several events in the nation's capital to celebrate the Memorial's dedication August 24 through 28. Former Secretary of Labor Alexis Herman, General Colin Powell, Tom Brokaw, Maya Angelou, Alpha Phi Alpha General President Herman "Skip" Mason, Jr., Tommy Hilfiger, General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson, leaders of the faith-based community and more will participate in Dedication Week events. God tries to gently lead us along the paths of righteousness and goodness. When we resist that path, sometimes the only way to get our attention is to give us a little pinch. You know, like mom used to do in church when we would not sit still. Just remember, A pinch from God is always out of love. When you feel that you have received a love pinch, stop, close your eyes, block out all interference and listen. He's trying to get your attention and get you back on the right path.

Little Things Mean A Lot

Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?

It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”

And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God?

It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal

till it was all leavened.”

Most of us tend to be impressed by bigness. In Luke 13:18-21, Jesus described the kingdom and faith as starting out small, but ultimately having a big effect. He likened the kingdom to a small seed that grows into a tree-like plant. He also borrowed an image from the baking industry, likening the kingdom to leaven, a piece of fermented dough that was added to a new batch, causing it to rise.

These parables remind us of the power of small but potent faith and of simple but solid kingdom values. -- Let us not be impressed by great power, success, or super-achievement, but give ourselves to the so-called little things, the things of His kingdom.

Book Review - Church Diversity by Scott Williams

How do you create diversity in a church when most congregations are representative of the surrounding community and culture in which it resides? Why would you want to “mix” the churches? We have already mixed schools, sports events, concerts, night clubs, and work environments. Does the church really NEED to be diverse? Who’s complaining?

In his book, “Church Diversity- Sunday The Most Segregated Day Of The Week”, Pastor Scott Williams demonstrates how major institutions have intentionally become diverse since the civil rights movement, but for the most part the church, which should be the leader in diversity, is actually dragging her feet. In his book, Pastor Williams writes: “The Church can’t simply talk about taking the gospel to impoverished people around the world, when we can’t worship with people across the track.”

One of the most noted chapters in this book includes written material that Pastor Williams shares from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on church diversity. Specifically as it relates to Dr. King’s 1956 sermon titled “Paul’s Letter to American Christians” in which Dr. King reads an imaginary letter from the apostle Paul. It was that speech that Dr. King spoke these words:

“There is another thing that disturbs me to no end about the American church. You have a white church and you have a Negro church. You have allowed segregation to creep into the doors of the church. How can such a division exist in the true Body of Christ? You must face the tragic fact that when you stand at 11:00 on Sunday morning to sing "All Hail the Power of Jesus Name" and "Dear Lord and Father of all Mankind," you stand in the most segregated hour of Christian America. They tell me that there is more integration in the entertaining world and other secular agencies than there is in the Christian church. How appalling that is.”

This book also includes stories from pastors who share their lessons on church diversity. Let me tell you, reading these stories made me a little uncomfortable. If you care about the Body of Christ, you too will feel uneasy when you realize how foolish we look every Sunday calling ourselves Christian. Diversity is not impossible. Let’s see… we go to NBA games and hear a little R&B, a little country, a little pop and even a little rock and roll as we clap and cheer for the same team. Why can’t we do the same at church? What’s wrong with intentionally singing a soulful gospel song and switching to contemporary gospel next? After all, aren’t we singing about the same Jesus? I truly believe God has placed this burden on the hearts of these ministers and we should be paying attention.

It is not by accident that America is like no other nation on earth. We have so many different cultures, races, nationalities… and that my friend is by divine design. America is America because God planned it this way. Maybe it is time to stop with excuses and make changes.

This book is for those interested in seeing the Body of Christ growing in one accord while embracing our differences.

Remembering Passover

The Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread is the first of three great festivals of the Hebrews.

The name Passover recalls the deliverance of Israel from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 12:1 - 13:16). God sent His angel to kill all the firstborn sons of the Egyptians in order to persuade Pharaoh to let His people go. Hebrew families were instructed to sacrifice a lamb and smear its blood on the doorpost of their house as a signal to God that His angel should "pass over" them during the judgement.

Passover was observed on the fourteenth day of the first month, Abib (March-April), with the service beginning in the evening (Leviticus 23:6). It was the evening of this day that Israel left Egypt in haste. Unleavened bread was used in the celebration as a reminder that the people had no time to leaven their bread before they ate their final meal as slaves in Egypt.

Like the blood of the lambs which saved the Hebrews from destruction in Egypt, the blood of Jesus, the ultimate Passover Lamb, saves us from the power of sin and death. Taken from the"The Word In Life Study Bible".

He rejoices when we walk in the paths of righteousness, and is not pleased when we follow a path which leads us from His glory. We can't fool God, because He knows us so much better than we know ourselves. When He created us there was already a purpose and plan. Seek Him daily and He will guide you daily. What a blessing to walk daily knowing God has already ordered your steps.

World News - Africa is the Church of the Future, Says Lausanne Officer

There is hope in Africa - a continent ravaged by conflicts, poverty and HIV/AIDS - because God is at work in this land, said African Christian leaders Friday at the Lausanne conference.

In the last century, the African church has grown 3,000 percent, said Daniel Bourdanne, general secretary of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students and international deputy director for the Lausanne movement, during the evening plenary focused on Africa. Even though Africa does not have money or technology, Bourdanne said, Africans can celebrate because God's grace has been poured out on the continent.

"This (church growth through the Holy Spirit) is more than technology, more than money, more than anything that we can have,” declared the African leader from Chad, drawing loud applause from the 4,000 attendees of Lausanne III.

Christian leaders from over 190 nations are gathered in Cape Town, South Africa, for The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization. While all three Lausanne conferences have focused on sharing the Gospel worldwide, this conference is also addressing a wide range of global problems facing the Church, such as pluralism, globalization, HIV/AIDS, and prosperity gospel.

On Friday, the Lausanne Congress’s theme throughout the day was priorities. During the morning plenary, Paul Eshleman, founder of The Jesus Film Project, spoke about the priority to share the Gospel to the ends of the earth and the need to translate Scripture into the languages of people groups.

I have just completed reading "If She Can Beat Me Rockin', She Can Have My Chair!" by Author Carla Ladd. And what a great read this was. In this book, the author, Mrs. Ladd, shares some of her grandmother's "words of wisdom for life." Her grandmother like most grandmothers always had the wisest advice ever. You know those "words of wisdom" that usually started with the word "Listen." You may not have wanted to hear it, but for your own good, you heard it.

Written with a little humor, but straight to the point-- grandma's lessons for today's young women covers topics of religion, finance, family, and simply behaving like a young lady just to name a few. These simple heartfelt lessons from the past still ring true today. I remember my grandmother providing many of these lessons in her own way, but there were a few even I had never heard. For instance the title- "If She Can Beat Me Rockin', She Can Have My Chair!" Never heard it, but kind of had an idea where she would be going with it-- now I know, and you can too.

Product Spotlight-- African American Writing Journals

My family and I set up display booths at different events throughout the year. To keep things interesting I look forward to counting how many times a customer approaches my booth, looks at the display of writing journals and says, "Oh, what's this book about?" Usually, before I can say a word they have already picked up and opened the journal only to discover one small sentence at the top of each page followed by a full page of lines. Because of their eye-catching covers, our line of African American writing journals usually turns the avid reader's smile into a look of confusion. Or I get those famous words "oh, it's one of those things you write in." phrase. And that's ok, because these writing journals are so beautiful they look as though they belong on the cover of a great novel.

Each journal's soft-padded (yes padded) cover features alluring artwork by artist Aaron and Alan Hicks, and Dorothy Allen. Some journal covers are sprinkled with inspirational messages and scriptures. Although the journals are not full of words, they do contain a small Bible verse and that's more than enough reading for those who love to write. Not only do they look fabulous, but the spiral spine allows the journal to open flat so the writer can comfortably write without having to break in the spine or eventually loose pages.

The "Sunday Morning" and "Virtuous Woman" journals are a favorite for Sunday worship or Wednesday night Bible study notes. I remember going to Wednesday night Bible study with a plain ol' yellow notepad. Later I would be disappointed when my husband or daughters would grab a sheet to use as scratch paper. But with my "upgrade", I dare them to take a sheet.

What I like most-- once I've completely filled one journal I can place it on the bookshelf and purchase another one... same size, different design. And I might add, they look quite lovely on my bookshelf.

A couple of changes taking place at Inspirational Expressions.

The Christian website links pages has a new look and feel. Instead of just offering links to Christian website pages, more time will be devoted to communicating more of what you want, i.e., resources, notices, events, and other interesting Christ centered information.

The name for this section has changed as well. Instead of "Christian Websites", the new name is "We Are The Body of Christ". The name fits perfectly since my aim is to focus on what others are doing for the Kingdom of God. I am in the beginning stages, so please, please be patient. This is truly a new area for me, so please keep me in your prayers.

Other big changes - I have added over 20 new products along with a gifts section for the pastor and the pastor's wife. It's a small section now, but more products are coming.

You will also notice that some of our new items say pre-order. Products listed as "pre-order" will soon be a NEW-ARRIVAL to our store. I am unabashedly a daddy's girl. It is not that my dad had a lot of time to spend with me - he didn't. Rather, the time he spent with me was meaningful. Even when I had to be disciplined as a child, I knew that he still loved and accepted me.

I remember one time getting in trouble for riding my bike to MacArthur Park in spite of the fact that I had been told not to do so. MacArthur Park was the hang-out. It was the place where all the teenage kids and teenage wanna-bes went and played music, leaning coolly on their Camero Z28's talking to girls. It was the place I wanted to go.

I convinced my little brother, Vadrick, to come with me. Five years younger than me, he did almost anything I said. So we got on our bikes, and off we sailed.

Of course, I wasn't going to stay. I just wanted to ride through and be seen. I wanted someone to say, "I saw Karia riding through MacArthur Park on Sunday. Did you see her?"

I wanted a brief brush with cool.

We sped down the street together, stirring up the leaves from the tree-lined sidewalks. As we approached, I pumped my pedals harder, working up my speed so I could cruise effortlessly around the bend where I would make my grand entrance. The wind whipped my blue blazer as I floated through the sunny September afternoon. When I rounded the corner, I could hear the booming bass of the popular Marvin Gaye song resonating through the kid-packed park, "Let's get it on...oooh, baby. Let's get it on."

I glanced at Vadrick, "We are just going to ride through, okay?" "Okay," he replied.

I coasted across the grass, through the parking lot, around the park, and out the other side. As I disappeared into the neighboring white-fenced forest of blue and yellow houses I thought to myself, "Now I'm cool. I was at MacArthur Park. Everyone will know."

And everyone did know. Including my parents. The moment we walked in the door my brother announced, "Hey Mom, Dad! Guess where we have been? At MacArthur Park!"

Just like a little brother.

My mom looked at me with angry eyes. My dad rounded the hall doorway, and spoke in his daddy-voice: deep, penetrating, like a preacher.

"Didn't we tell you not to go there, Karia?"

"Yes, Daddy."

"Then what do you have to say for yourself?"

"Nothing."

"Alright. Well, have a seat. We are going to talk."

I hated those talks. They always preceded Daddy not sparing the rod.

But there was mercy in the rod. The mercy was that, before I received it, I knew exactly why it was coming. The second mercy was that it never lasted longer than was necessary for me to get the point. And the final mercy was that I learned to be a young lady who did not need to follow the crowd.

Daddy's discipline spoke to me, "Karia, this is where you belong. Your reference point is here. The rules you must obey are here. You are mine, and I love you."

Have you ever experienced the loving hand of God's discipline? Are you experiencing it right now?

Maybe you have made a critical mistake, and you are suffering the consequences of it. Maybe you are worried about tomorrow, because your yesterday and your today do not express faith in God. You are still repeating the same mistakes that got you into this mess.

The Scripture says, "Whom God loves, He disciplines" (Hebrews 12:6). And again God's Word says in Proverbs 3:12, "For the Lord corrects those He loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom He delights." If you are in the midst of divine discipline, know that He is doing it because you belong to Him, because He loves you too much to let you go your own destructive path.

Where is your McArthur Park? Where is the place in life where God has told you not to go, but where you would like to go anyway? Is it divorce court? Is it a second date with that wonderful guy? Is it the loan department of your local bank? Is it happy hour at the hotel bar? Stay away from the places God has told you not to go. He He has given you these limitations because His plan for your life excludes hanging around in places which may be harmful to you, or with people who do not honor His standards.

God disciplines you, just like my father disciplined me, because He wants His best for you. You are His beloved daughter. Before the world began He lovingly fashioned you, knowing the path your life would take, and He loves you too much to let you fall from His glorious design. Ephesians 2:10 proclaims our divine identity, "We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." The Greek word "workmanship" has the same root as the English word "poem." It refers to a creation of some sort, a work of art; a masterstroke of brilliance.

In the mind of God, you are a creation far greater than Leonardo da Vinci's striking portrait Mona Lisa or Maya Angelou's poem Phenomenal Woman. You are a masterwork more lovely than the Eiffel Tower of Paris and Rotterdam's Swan Bridge. When the wind adorns your hair, the majestic plains of Africa pale in comparison to your beauty. The Grand Canyon lacks the depth to search your soul. You are a crowning creation; you are God's Picasso.

My dear sister, take delight in God's design for you, accepting His discipline, so that you can truly become the woman He intends for you to be.

Celebrating Oklahoma's African American Culture

The 3rd Annual Africa West Festival was great fun for the whole family. The event was much greater than I had anticipated. There was fun, food, health screenings, and lots and lots of African American and Oklahoma African history. Meeting so many people, I didn't think I could talk that much. Wow, who knew? From friends, family and strangers to volunteers, sponsors, and vendors the festival offered so much for Oklahoma City. Looking forward to next year's festival already.

What a wonderful evening I had last night as I attended the Morning Star Baptist Church 7th Annual Chocolate & Pajamas Women's Conference. Their Theme "Exploring Women of the Bible: Birthing Kingdom Building Characteristics." These ladies were on fire for the Lord and it was just what the Lord ordered for me. Great speakers: Mrs. Regina West, First Lady, Emmanual Baptist Church and Mrs. Audrey Howard-Harris, CEO, Howard-Harris Funeral Homes. Besides eating great chocolate, fellowship and wonderful praise, there were two messages from the speakers that really inspired me. Mrs. West told the group of women, “Don’t be afraid of the consequences of obeying God”. Wow that was tremendous. Because sometime we forget that God operates and blesses in ways we never even dreamed. So let’s continue to obey and prepare for the consequences by staying prayed up. Mrs. Harris-Howard told us that, “Birthing takes time”. Time belongs to God. Let us remember His timing is perfect and we should remain patient in whatever He is preparing us for. Realize what God has for YOU, He will prepare YOU for it BEFORE you can birth it. The program continues today with more great speakers along with a little jazzercise. Unfortunately, I cannot make it as today is my son Antonio's 8th birthday party. Be Blessed family.

The middle school students at HOPE Christian Schools in Milwaukee are getting closer to reaching their goal. The video called “Scholar Ladies,” is a spin-off of Beyonce’s hit “Single Ladies” and has become a hit. The students are singing "if you learned it then you should have got an A on it". They certainly deserve an A for this video.

HOPE is a K-12 private charter school with approximately 600 students.
